FRI Description

FAIMER, a division of Intealth, has been conducting capacity building in health professions education across the globe through Fellowship programs at its regional institutes.

The PSG FAIMER Regional Institute is located at PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Coimbatore, India, and caters to health professionals from India and other Southeast Asian countries.

PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (PSGIMS&R) is located in Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, India. It is under the aegis of PSG&Sons’ charities, a 100-year-old trust (https://www.psgsonscharities.org/). PSGIMS&R was established in 1985 and runs medical undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The institute has a large teaching hospital and peripheral centers to cater to the needs of the community.

Program Description

The purpose of the PSG FRI fellowship program is to build capacity of faculty who are actively involved or interested in improving health professions education in their home institution and to nurture academic leaders who can be change agents.

At the end of the two-year Fellowship, the Fellows will be able to:

  • Become effective teachers and take up leadership roles to start or re-energize their institution’s Health Professions Education units,
  • Carry out educational research and do evaluation of existing educational programs, leading to continuing improvement of student learning in their home institution,
  • Mentor other medical educators in their own institution as well as in the region,
  • Build a community of practice of health profession educators through FAIMER Connect (https://connect.faimer.org/page/psg).

During the two-year FAIMER fellowship, Fellows focus on developing, implementing, evaluating, and disseminating an educational intervention (their “project”) supported by didactic sessions informed by the core FAIMER fellowship curriculum.

During Year 1 of the Fellowship, Fellows focus on developing their project with guidance from a Project Advisor and their peers, seeking ethical approval (as needed), and implementation of their project.

During Year 2 of the Fellowship, Fellows continue to focus on implementation as well as evaluation and dissemination of their findings through formats such as a Project Report and/or an abstract.
