Fellowship Program Description
The CMU-FAIMER Regional Institute (formerly CMB-CMU-FAlMER), the first FAIMER Regional Institute (FRI) in China, began in August, 2013. Based at the China Medical University (CMU) in Shenyang, China, the CMU-FRI Fellowship is organized and administered under the direction of Yang Zhao with the support of a core team from CMU. The program is open to interested health professions educators from China.
The CMU-FRI Fellowship focuses on health professions education, leadership development, and community building. Based on the curriculum of the International FAIMER Institute, USA, the CMU-FRI curriculum is modified to be contextual and relevant to the local needs of health professions educators in China.
To date, 200 Fellows from 74 medical colleges and universities throughout China have completed the CMU-FRI Fellowship. CMU-FRI contributes to the dissemination of advanced educational methods in the health professions, creates a growing body of health professions educators well-versed in best practices of teaching and learning, and increases the number of health professions institutions practicing these methods.
During the two-year FAIMER fellowship, Fellows focus on developing, implementing, evaluating, and disseminating an educational intervention (their “project”) supported by didactic sessions informed by the core FAIMER fellowship curriculum.
During Year 1 of the Fellowship, Fellows focus on developing their project with guidance from a Project Advisor and their peers, seeking ethical approval (as needed), and implementation of their project.
During Year 2 of the Fellowship, Fellows continue to focus on implementation as well as evaluation and dissemination of their findings through formats such as a Project Report and/or an abstract.
